  • National Insurance Increase and Its Impact on Social Care

At Pulp Friction, we are seriously concerned about the plans to increase employer National Insurance contributions in 2025. This decision could have a devastating effect on the social care sector, and we need to talk about it.

What’s Happening?

The government’s decision to raise National Insurance contributions for employers will mean higher costs for organisations across many sectors, including social care. For care providers supporting learning disabled and autistic people, this is a huge worry. Social care services are already stretched, and this extra financial pressure could make it harder for the services to continue supporting people, and add unnecessary challenges for employers looking to provide the quality care and support that people deserve.

In short, this increase could lead to cuts in staffing, reduced hours for workers, or fewer services available for those who need them the most. With services already under strain, this could make things even worse, potentially leaving vulnerable individuals without the support they need.

Why Does This Matter to Us?

The people who rely on social care are already living with challenges that many of us may never face. They depend on a consistent, well-supported workforce to ensure they have the care, dignity, and independence they deserve. If this policy goes ahead, we risk cutting corners at the worst possible time.

For those of us who work in the sector, we know how much of a difference care workers make to someone’s day. But the reality is that a rise in National Insurance will add strain to already tight budgets. This could mean fewer hours for staff, lower wages, or even job losses. The people receiving support might also find themselves with less time, attention, and care from their teams.

What Can You Do About It?

There is still time to make your voice heard. A petition is circulating to ask the government to exempt social care services from the National Insurance increase, and we believe it’s vital that we all get behind it. If we don’t act now, we risk worsening an already fragile situation.

Sign the petition today to help protect social care and prevent unnecessary cuts to vital services:

By signing this petition, you’ll be standing with those who need care, the workers who provide it, and everyone who believes in a fairer, more compassionate future for all. Together, we can make a difference.
