  • Bringing People Together Through Music During Pulp Friction’s Music Week!

Music has the power to make us feel good.

Research shows it releases the feel-good chemical, dopamine, into our brains.

Last week (17th – 21st August), we focussed on the topic of Music at our Training Hub in Bestwood. Together, we had a week packed with rhythm, singing, dancing, new experiences and, of course, plenty of brilliant music!

Our Members enjoyed a fantastic range of activities, with something different to get involved with each day.

We started by getting stuck into percussion and rhythm games, exploring different beats and having fun making music together. We also took a musical trip around the world, listening to music from different countries and discovering the different instruments, styles and sounds they have to offer.

To put our knowledge to the test, Members played some brilliant online instrument games, matching sounds and learning more about the huge variety of instruments used to make music.

Getting up close to brass instruments

A real highlight was a visit from Rachel, who brought along their brass instruments and gave us the chance to see them up close.

It was great to learn about the instruments and hear them being played – and there was certainly no shortage of audience participation! Christina described the session as having “lots of sing along, head bopping and stomping of feet by all”.

Singing, dancing and DJing!

There was plenty of opportunity for Members to take centre stage too.

Our karaoke session gave everyone the chance to sing along to some favourite tracks, while our DJ workshop with Golden Lights introduced Members to the skills involved in putting music together and entertaining a crowd.

Throughout the week, Members were also adding their song choices to our very own Pulp Friction Playlist. With everyone bringing their own musical tastes to the mix, we’ve ended up with a wonderfully varied collection of songs.

A week to remember

Music Week gave Members the chance to try something new, share their interests and enjoy experiences together. From discovering music from around the world to playing instruments, singing karaoke and having a go at DJing, it was a week full of creativity and fun.

A huge thank you to Rachel and Golden Lights for coming along, and to all our Members for getting involved and helping make the week such a success.

Most of all, it was brilliant to see so much singing, head-bopping, stomping and smiling happening throughout the week!
