We Are Passionate About Sustainability

We believe in caring for our environment and improving our sustainability anyway we can!

We do this in lots of ways, whether growing our own fruit and vegetables to use in cooking, or re-purposing our waste… We want to ensure Pulp Friction leaves a positive impact on the planet.

Our Polytunnel

Based in our Community Hub, the polytunnel has become a safe space for the Members to develop their gardening skills and grow their own fruits and vegetables, which then can be used in the meals prepared by the team

Working with Schools

We are passionate about what we do and love to pass this passion on! As part of our projects or collaborating with other charities and organisations, the Members go to schools in the community, where they do different workshops about climate change, gardening

Upcycling Project

With our new sewing machine, Members have been learning how to make bags using recycled materials such as curtains and scraps of fabric. There is no funner and more environmentally-friendly way of doing fashion!

The Urban Worm

Do you know the true power of worms? They are brilliant at composting! We have lots of ‘wormeries’ set up in our garden which help to break down food and paper into a natural fertiliser.

We give surplus food the life it deserves! We work with food charity, FareShare Midlands, to ensure good food doesn’t go to waste and instead used throughout our catering activities.

The OVO Foundation is supporting our climate change projects working with children and young people.

We feed over 10,000 people using food that would have otherwise gone to waste

Sorting: We sort through the food to note the dates, quantities and quality, and decide what we can make with it.

Composting: Any food that cannot be used is recycled through our Plan-it composting bins and on-site wormeries. Nothing goes to waste!

Distributing: We distribute the food we receive across our catering network ready to be used in daily activities and events.
